On behalf of all the Officers in Fort Pierce, I can confidently state we all respect and have enjoyed a great friendship over the years. As you form your new Local, we encourage you lean on us for any assistance you may need. We have similar interestsand and common goals. Our Board is committed to lending a helping hand, wherever needed. 772-559-8599

The proposed contract is “Quiet a few steps” backwards. So under the “Breavement leave” article, I would be required to have my picture taken next to my dead loved ones casket in order to show documentation that I was there so I could get paid for it?

Jon, I agree with you, the “new” contract is definitely going in the wrong direction. What happened to the step plan, it just totally went way, unless I missed something. I know the step plan is on hold because of the budget, but in this contract it appears they just did away with it. Tell me if I’m wrong.

Under the proposed PBA contract Wages/salaries are OFF the table for the length on the contract. This contract is bad for the deputies and should be voted down…

I can not believe that they even brought this forward. I would be ashamed to bring that to you and even ask for a vote on it. All that was changed went backwards from where we started. Makes no sense to me!!

I wrote Al at the p.b.a. a letter I would ask you all to do the same. I told him that I could not back anything the pba does as they sold US OUT!! Here is his address in case anyone else would like to let them know how you feel! alcoastalpba@aol.com

Please, be very careful of any last minute contracts by the PBA, as they think if it’s passed that they can not be voted out. This is wrong, of course. They tried the same thing with us, and only failed as our City was slow to respond. They went backwards on several issues and Steve M. after two years of advising us one way changed around and advised us another to get it signed in order to protect the PBA. Be very careful as the County will know this.
Strive for a good contract rather than a quick one.

I got a response today from al at the pba he said that contract was the final offer from the Sheriffs office not the pba. I still say we have to be careful!!!!

  9. Jason Cannon said,

I don’t care who’s final offer it is I wouldn’t vote that crap in for anything. Once we get the switch vote done then we can begin work on a legitimate contract proposal that will be able to be ratified. This is simply a last ditch effort to push something through to say they did something for us. If it sucked so bad you wanted to go to impasse when they did why would they put the same thing forward for a ratification? I know we can do better than this!

  10. Jeff Buchanan said,

    December 23, 2009 @ 12:47 pm

Ed, the PBA has lied to us for years and this is just another sad attempt. We would be foolish to pass this contract. If this contract is so great then why are we moving backwards?? WE deserve better!!

  11. Ed Johnston said,

    December 23, 2009 @ 11:54 pm

I think you all took my statement WRONG I am in no way for the pba I was saying we had to be careful of them!!!! I don’t know if you guys read the letter I sent the pba,I sent it to the admin site of this website! That would explain exactly how I felt about them, I think my words to al were ” I can not back anything the pba does from here on out and I would be cancelling my membership A.S.A.P!! This is why I hate E-MAILS!!

    Merry Christmas

The CFPBA ratification vote has been rescheduled for January 11, 2009 from 5:00PM to 7:30PM at Flying J’s. The CFPBA’s flyer says this contract is the Sheriff’s Office final offer. This contract is a step backwards, and does not properly represent the Law Enforcement Deputies of the Saint Lucie County Sheriff’s Office. Vote NO!

I would like to get as many of you as possible to go out to the J and give this contact the spanking that it so deserves. As we have said before this contact would be a giant step backwards on what we have already gained. Personally, I would rather remain with nothing than to single handedly give back all that has been gained. I have no doubt that we will be able to do much better than this once we are voted in and given the chance. If you believe in yourself and your co-workers then vote this monster down and lets move on with some real representation.

Happy New Year!! May all of you have a safe and prosperous 2010!!

Now the real work begins! We will be certified on Feb 6, 2010. In the meantime we will begin a membership drive as soon as recruitment materials are received. Your PBA memberships will cease automatically on Feb. 6 and then your IUPA memberships that you sign up for will begin. Dues will be $40 per month or $20 per paycheck. This is slightly cheaper than the PBA and $5 per month per person will come back to the local treasury. There will be a membership meet sometime probably the week after Feb 6 to vote on the executive board. Nominations will be open soon. The standing board will automatically be nominated and you will be able to nominate others if you feel the need. Then all members will have a vote on each office. Once we get all the housekeeping stuff completed we will be trying to get with the admin and start working on a contract. If you have any questions and/or concerns please contact one of the board members to get more information. Our contact information is on the website if you don’t have it already. We have some really good ideas and things coming up so keep checking the website and we all look forward to working for you.

Mailing my membership application in today. Please support the nominated Board members or nominate someone. Just make sure thay are active members of the union. Lets get the word out to have 100% membership by the end of the month and start March 2010 off with a firm foundation to move forward with. I hope to have the support of all of my brother and sister Law Enforcement Deputies to make this year the year of CHANGE (if I may barrow the Pres. O).

I can’t wait to meet with the members as soon as possible and find out what people are concerned about the most. Once we know that, we can start down the path to working with the Sheriff to truly make this the Best Agency to work for.

    See you then,

I attended the PSL POA’s Policeman’s Ball last night. If you didn’t go you definately missed a great time. They put together a first class event. For $35 a ticket they offered a great meal, open bar, raffles, and more. Next year I would like to see a major turn out from our membership for this event to help support our brothers and sisters to the south as they have been supporting us as we get started.

On July 8, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at the Havert Fenn Center on Virginia Avenue the County Comissioners are meeting with Sheriff’s Office over the budget. I am asking for all members that can attend please do so and let the Commissioners know we are standing together. Also to make sure the budget gets approved and they fund …everything.

    Thank you
